Bret Dyer grew up in Lamesa, Texas, where he played high school tennis, took years of piano lessons and worked on his grandparent's cotton farm. He spent many hours in his father's dental practice and decided as a young boy that he wanted to follow in his father's footsteps.

Dr. Dyer graduated from the University of Texas (B.A. in Biology - 1984). He furthered his education at The University of Texas Dental Branch in Houston, becoming certified to practice periodontics in 1990 and continued research at the Dental Branch until May, 1991 to earn a Master's of Science (M.S.) in Periodontics. His research on regeneration won several awards. He has published his research in the Journal of Periodontology, an international publication, and other professional journals. He is a leader in the field of lasers in dentistry and speaks internationally on his research and techniques. Dr. Dyer is a Diplomat of the American Board of Periodontology.

Dr. Dyer is a Rotarian Paul Harris Fellow, has served as a cubmaster and an assistant scoutmaster for the Boy Scouts of America, earned his woodbadge and is an active member of Christ United Methodist Church in Sugar Land. An avid outdoorsman, Dr. Dyer is a master tomato (salsa) gardener and enjoys playing golf, camping, sailing and waterflow hunting
